1568/81
Construction of the Ciäsa Granda by Johannes della Stampa. The building was used as a residence until the early 20th century and then stood empty.


1952
The Società culturale di Bregaglia acquires the Cäsa Granda, which is in a precarious state, from the Stampa family in order to establish a cultural centre in it.


1953–55
Restoration of the building (architect Jachen Ulrich Cönz).


ca. 1959/60
Remo Maurizio (1933–2017) begins working in the Ciäsa Granda, which he gradually turns into the Bregaglia Valley Museum of Cultural and Natural History and Art over the years. The areas of mineralogy, geology and fauna of the Bregaglia are also of great scientific importance. In 1973, the University of Basel awarded him an honorary doctorate. The exhibition on the fauna of Bregaglia (dioramas with birds, reptiles and small mammals) is of museological importance.


1964
The Ciäsa Granda is placed under protection.


1986
Diego Giacometti’s heirs donate the Atelier Giacometti to the Museo Ciäsa Granda.


1987–89
An extension is built (underground), the Sala Giacometti Varlin.


2008
Remo Maurizio retires as curator of the Museo Ciäsa Granda.


2008–23
The board of the Società culturale di Bregaglia manages the museum. In the absence of a qualified curator, a period of stagnation, alternating exhibitions with guest curators. The awareness matures that the Ciäsa Granda needs to be fundamentally renovated and expanded so that it can be preserved in the long term and continue to operate as a museum in the future.


2021
Architectural competition for the renovation and extension of the Ciäsa Granda is won by Baserga/Mozzetti Architetti (Muralto).


2023
The Società culturale di Bregaglia hands over responsibility for the Museo Ciäsa Granda to the newly created «Fondazione Museo Ciäsa Granda e Atelier Giacometti».
